(about JUST IN TIME - Father Christmas in trouble)
Another play - another triumph! Everybody, and I mean everybody was impressed - and who wouldn't be by such a magnificent performance by a group of Pre-Primary students. For Father Christmas and Mary Christmas to learn so many words was a tremendous feat. And there were children who had to be talked into giving speaking parts and go and truly believed they couldn't do it. It was wonderful to see them blossom and deliver their lines with confidence and enjoyment. A good time was had by all! A grandparent who was in the audience and has worked in early childhood for many years said that she has seen dozens of Pre-Primary concerts and that ours was the best that she has ever seen.
Keep writing your terrific plays so that we can keep performing them.

I was able to use The Ballad of Bold St George as part of our Y6 drama syllabus, in the section about theatre history. It worked wonderfully and kept three groups happy and actively involved. I hope more teachers feel encouraged to use Robert Smith's excellent scripts for drama lessons as well as performance. Stephen Baird (Junior King's School, Canterbury) Spring 2007

Just to let you know that we performed The Ballad of St George last night. The children made up their own dances for the soldiers and three girls did a dance when the tune was playing for the dragon song. The play was received really well by the audience and the children enjoyed performing it. Many thanks. Bucknall School Lincolnshire 17/7/7

Firstly thank you for writing such brilliant plays! We performed the Ballad of St George on Tuesday night and it was such a success. Not only did the children (34 Yr 3) love performing it but the adults were amazed. Your script was so funny and the songs were perfect, we look forward to performing more of your works in years to come. Head of Music, Independent Prep School SW London 2006

We performed your Ballad of Bold St George in the summer, which was a wonderful play and performed by pupils from 4 - 11. They really enjoyed the play, in particular they loved "I'm a Roman Soldier" so I thought I would try another of your plays. Could you send me the play and CD of songs for the Snow Queen..... ...we had 6 days to put it together before our dress rehearsal. Thanks to your easily learnt songs and children who would ad lib we did it.Our staff were fantastic and parent comments said it was one of our best.
Was it just fate that made me choose this? I don't know but thanks for supplying us with a script that worked so well. We involved 180 infant school children, yes we did add a few snowflakes to accomodate them all -- we even had a few inspectors checking on Santa's workshop, they passed the inspection I'm glad to say!

Hi Robert
Today was our big day and the children - who are only 5 and 6 years old performed magnificently. They loved doing it and loved the songs. The applause from the parents was deafening and I know they thoroughly enjoyed the play. The mother of Mrs Christmas has said that she has been thrilled with the growth in confidence in her daughter since she has been involved in the play and she has been reading it to her as a bedtime story every night. Thanks for a great play.

It was a huge success especially as we added a twist - the parents and workers at our pre-school performed it to the children of the village and it went down a storm. So much so that we are having to put another show on this year and your adaptation of Snow White sounds just the ticket." Burghclere Pre-School Nursery Newbury

Dear Robert,
just wanted to let you know that our play was a real success. The children really did give a great performance and the music went down really well. The children enjoyed the music a lot and it really gave the play that something special, also during rehearsals. We will listen to it in future and be reminded of a great evening. Hope this won't be the last time that I will be appreciating you're work. I'll certainly recommend you to others.

"We had our performance of Snow White yesterday and it was a huge success. We had a packed hall and everybody loved it so thank you again for another great play. We also introduced an autograph book at the end of the performance which we gave out to all of the children so they could get their favourite characters autographs and this proved to be hugely popular (both with the children and cast) so you may wish to pass that onto anyone else who purchases your script" Pre-school playgroup, Berkshire
